Episode 48 - Live at Youmacon '06

Another convention report show? You got that right. Last weekend we hit up Youmacon in Detroit, MI. We had a great time last year and this year was no exception. This will do it for the con reports for awhile until Ohayocon in January. Be sure to listen for your chance to win a free anime DVD too. Free DVDs rule, and the contest is open to everyone in the world! Be sure to enter by November 15th.

  • Youmacon - the con's website. Be there next year or else!
  • Captain Lou Albano - not only a wrestler but he played Mario on TV. How cool is that?
  • Brett Weaver - plays Roy Focker in ADV's Macross dub.
  • Tony Oliver - Dude, I met Rick Hunter! Awesome.
  • Anime Music Videos.org - AMVs rule, and this is the best site about them.
  • An article about Maid Cafes

Episode 44 - Hellsing

This week's podcast is a little shorter then normal due to having to get ready for SITACon this weekend. Instead of skipping a week I'm running a listener review since we haven't done one of those in awhile. Hans, a listener from Austria, was nice enough to record and send in a review of Hellsing. He has an interesting take on this anime and manga, and I hope you like his review. Regular reviews should be back next week assuming I'm not too worn out of hungover from the con. ^_^

SITACon is going on this weekend in Utica, NY and I'll be there with many other anime podcasters. If your in the area make sure to stop by and say hello!

Episode 42 - Great Teacher Onizuka

This week I take a look at one of my favorite shonen comedy series Great Teacher Onizuka, more commonly referred to as GTO. I also read some of the entries from the Castle Of Cagliostro DVD contest and pick a winner, and bring you all sorts of other tasty anime goodies.

It you visited the site in the past few days you would have noticed that the new WARP T-shirts are now available. These come in white with the classy Weekly Anime Review logo in Navy Blue. This is a test run to see just how well they will sell, so if you want one be sure to do it sooner then later. Shirts are only $10 shipped inside the US, and slightly higher outside the country. What a bargain!

Don't forget that I will also be a guest at SITACon next month. SITACon is taking place in Utica, NY at SUNYIT on October 6th, 7th, and 8th. I hope to see you there!

Check out the above YouTube link for the original opening of Speed Grapher featuring the song "Girls On Film" by Duran Duran. I also have some pretty incredible news, we have been invited as guests to SITACon! SITACon will take place in Utica, NY October 6-8th at the State University Of New York Institute Of Technology (SUNYIT for short). We will be part of the podcasting guests at he con. Episode 37 - An Evening With Shinichiro Watanabe

Here's another special episode for you all to listen too as my summer hiatus is quickly coming to a close. This is a recording I made of the Shinichiro Watanabe Q&A panel in Detroit, MI on February 8th, 2006. The event happened at the Detroit Institute Of Arts. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Mr. Watanabe he is the director for such great anime as Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Macross Plus.

I've been sitting on this recording for awhile (over 6 months now) and debating if I should post it on the feed. Considering you can watch entire episodes of Samurai Champloo on YouTube I don't think this should cause any problems.

I realize this is a much longer episode then normal. If you don't want to sit through the entire recording you can check out a great summary of the event over on Protaku.com.

Thanks for sticking it out through my short hiatus and the podcast will be back on a normal schedule very soon. Be sure to stay subscribed via iTunes and add WARP to your favorites at PodcastPickle.com. Thanks for your support!

No podcast this week... stupid cold!

As you could tell from the intro from last week's podcast, I had a cold. Well... I still have this stupid cold, and it's driving me crazy. I thought it was seasonal allergies but then I got Diana sick as well. I almost got it beat but my nose is still stuffed up. As I discovered when I sat down to record this week's show, it makes me sound like crap. So unfortunately there won't be a podcast this week. Sorry guys.

Episode 28 - Anime Punch 2006 Report

It's time again for another convention report. On March 31st - April 2nd, 2006 we attended the Anime Punch convention in Columbus, Ohio. We had a great time, and we're going to tell you all about it.

Assorted Anime Punch links:

  • Anime Punch 2006 photos - pictures we took at the con.

  • Anime Punch website
  • Lawrence Eng's website - he may very well be the Otaking. Don't miss his panel if he's a guest at a con your attending.
  • Crispin Freeman - this guy came off like a real cock-knocker at Mr. Eng's panel.
  • Joshua Seth - he'll make you bark like a dog, or at least rap in Japanese.
  • Steve Conte - he did a concert, but we didn't go since we saw him a couple years ago at Ohayocon. Instead we went for Irish Stew and Guiness for dinner. His anime music is cool, but I couldn't get into his original work.
  • The Spoony Bards - As always these guys rocked. Definetely check them out if you get a chance. The only bad thing is that they had to play next to the white noise generating fountain in the Holiday Inn's lobby.
  • OSU's Library Manga Collection - I wish the college I went to had one of these. I'd would've been in the library every day.

  • If you have any comments, feedback, suggestions, or submissions please send me an email at weeklyanimereview@gmail.com. Or you can always hit me up on the voicemail line at 206-339-9277. Thanks and be sure to tune in again next week!

Weekly Anime Review's Mascot/Logo Contest!

Hey we go, our very first contest. To make our website and future promotional materials look cool, we're in need of a mascot and a logo. Fortunately for you I can't draw, so I'm going to give out cool anime prizes to those who can. I'm in need of a header for the website and a image suitable for use on t-shirts, etc. Here are the rules:

  • The logo must include the name "Weekly Anime Review Podcast", and if you can work in the tag-line "Anime Reviews For Your Ears" that would be cool too.

  • No mascot submissions should resemble any other anime characters or encroach on any trademarks or copyrights. Must be an original design.

  • No pictures of iPods. Apple is going after podcasts that use images of their products on podcast websites.

  • All entries become the property of Anime Weekly Review.

  • Entries must be recieved by January 16, 2005.
